Olde Bowls Day

Olde Bowls Day

This tournament, held on Sunday 14th of April, was a chance to dust off the old bowls uniform, wind the clock back and play bowls like it was played in days gone by. The day was a great success, with Ken Parks, Keith Smith, Greg Toy and Frank Niglia running out winners. A visiting team from Mathoura Bowls Club were the best dressed on the day.

Thanks to our sponsors of the day Playright.

Anzac Day fours

The Anzac Day fours was a great success, with 88 bowlers participating in the event. It was great to see so many novice bowlers and different bowling clubs come along and be part of the day. Rob Sceney’s team from Kyabram ran out eventual winners, however Hilltop Bowls was very well represented with Dennis McHarry’s team coming second and Bruce Durston’s team in third place.

A big thanks goes to NL Drainage for sponsorship of the day.

Bowls Presentation night

Hilltop’s annual bowls presentation was fantastic night with around 100 in attendance, and excellent meals put on by the bistro. Bowls Committee chairman Rod Piggott talked about Hilltop’s successful year in bowls, and thanked all those who had been instrumental in building this success. Rod particularly thanked Trevor Downie, on behalf of all bowls members, for his many years as bowls secretary.

Led by our witty MC Jock Hicks, presentations were made to all the winners of club events and to this year’s Division 3 midweek, Division 3 weekend and Division 6 weekend premiership players.

A real highlight of the night was the presentation of Special Achievement Awards to Doreen Corrigan and Marg McGurgan for their many years of service to Hilltop and numerous achievements as champions of the club.

Greg Toy - State Multi-Disabilities Champion for 2019

To round out a huge month for the club, Greg Toy took out the Multi Disability (Physical) State championships at East Bendigo Bowling Club on Sunday (28th). Greg won the grand final on the last end against Josh Barry, who was the 2016 Bowls Australia Disability Player of the Year. Hilltop Bowls Club is very proud of Greg’s achievement!
