Lawn bowls open day at Tatura Bowls Club

By Laura Briggs

Spring may well be here but the weather on Tatura Bowls Club's opening day on Sunday reflected a day more attuned to the Antarctic. Intermittent showers in the morning and cool temperatures with strong winds that lowered the temperature even further had only a small contingent of Tatura bowls members fronting up for a social game of bowls. The season was welcomed by president Rod Kirby, who opened proceedings with thoughts of those members who are no longer with us and the hope that all members would have an enjoyable season of bowls.

Traditionally the season opens with the first roll of the kitty, and this was performed by Noeleen Boyd with husband Phil having the task of the first roll of his bowls.

The greens have been running quite quickly and many members have already been enjoying a roll this past month or so, albeit on days in much more favourable weather conditions.

Coming events: September 18 — 60 and Over commences. Members are reminded that the annual Naylor Shield practice match will be played at, and against, Mooroopna Golf from 1pm on Sunday, September 22.

Entries for some club events are already on display, so get your names in please.
