What’s news in Tatura this week

By Morgan Dyer

The Tatura Book Club is inviting local residents to kick off the year by joining a new group, meeting new people and learning new things.

Having run for decades, the club's numbers fluctuate but the club is always happy to welcome bookworms to join and sink their teeth into a good read.

Club member Helen Benham said she loved the monthly catch-ups and the discussions that filled the room.

“I enjoy the book club, as it challenges me to read books I may not normally read,” Ms Benham said.

“The group is diverse with everyone contributing, which makes it a good night.”

Each month the group gathers to discuss, laugh and chat about the newest read — members take the hosting responsibility in turns.

Each member selects their book of choice and from there 10 books are selected each year.

New member Suzanne Jaeger said there were many things she enjoyed about the group but meeting new people was a highlight.

“The opportunity to meet a lovely group of welcoming ladies that you may not otherwise meet,” she said.

The ladies ended the year with a Christmas celebration at the Golden Wheel Chinese Restaurant.

Men's Shed members and partners feasted on a home cooked Christmas lunch.

Tatura Men's Shed members gathered together late last year to celebrate their hard work.

Indulging in Christmas treats, the group invited their loved ones to join the fun.
