Consumer confidence hit by jobless rise

A confidence indicator has fallen for a third successive week, as consumers worry about the economy.

Consumers seem to be getting less positive about the economy, with a key confidence indicator falling for the third consecutive week.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian Consumer Confidence Survey shows consumer confidence was down one per cent in the week ended March 19 but, at 112, it remains above the 100-point level separating confidence and pessimism.

Consumers' 12-month economic outlook slumped 3.3 per cent, following a sharp 5.2 per cent downturn the previous week.
