Women’s golf

By Tatura Guardian

The warm weather came in a little early, with some ladies battling to adjust to the heat as they played the stableford event.

Captain Terry sponsored her day, and also substituted any gifts of appreciation usually given to the captain by lady golfers and opted to have them instead donate more than $200 to Riding for the Disabled.

A great effort to this worthy cause.

The day saw some excellent scores recorded in both grades.

Bev Roberts had one of those days, scoring 42 points to win A-grade, which reduced her handicap a little — not good news when playing pennant.

Runner-up was Janette Hayward with 38 points; also a pennant player.

B-grade winner with 38 points was Chris Beard, an ex Hill Top captain who was recently welcomed back to the fold after a few years playing at Barham Golf Club.

Runner-up was Di Day with 36 points.

Ball winners: Sue Turnbull, Heather Long 34, Gail Meneilly 33, Beryl Home, Joan Hill 32, Liz Mulcahy, Lynda O’Shannessy, Deb Reilly, Colleen Johns, Bec Jeffers, Josie De Ieso.

Nearest-the-pins: third Gallery Café, Bec Jeffers; sixth Tatura Hot Bread, Colleen Johns; ninth Café Alofa, Sue Pogue; 14th One4One Café, Bev Roberts.

Nine-hole competition: The ever consistent Joyce Tavener won the event.

Summer 4BBB Pennant: Hill Top travelled to Kyabram Valley View where they defeated Kialla 3/2 which has them staying on top of the ladder.

There was no pennant yesterday due to the Melbourne Cup weekend, but play will resume on November 12 at Mooroopna.

Coming events: The closing of the winter season and AGM will be held on November 14. Nominations for office bearers to be submitted ASAP.

Wednesday’s event: Stableford: Sponsor: Mitre 10.
