Debbie Orlandi from North Shepparton Community and Learning Centre, Jenny Lister from Murchison Neighbourhood House, Tatura Community House manager Leeane Button, Dawn Taylor from South Shepparton Community Centre and Sharron Kriesfeld from Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre.

Learning locally will be made easier with Tatura Community House being awarded $50000 for its Goulburn Valley Partnerships and Pathways project.

For the past two years the Community House has provided a variety of training, including first aid, English, literacy and beginners to advanced IT training, bringing students in from the surrounding district.

Community House manager Leeane Button said she wanted to deepen the type of training offered at the Community House.

‘‘The 12-month GV Partnerships and Pathways project has been awarded $50000, which is a fantastic win, not only for our Community House, but for our partner neighbourhood houses and local businesses,’’ Ms Button said

The Victorian Government’s ACFE Capacity and Innovation Fund has enabled the Community House to hire a project officer.

‘‘We have hired a project officer to help run the project, who will first of all be engaging with businesses big and small, to identify skill gaps with employees and potential employees,’’ Ms Button said.

Ms Button said although the project did not kick off until July 1, there had already been some interest from local businesses and TAFE.

‘‘This will be a win for employers and employees alike,’’ she said.

‘‘An example may be looking at the specific skills needed to work on a dairy or in a factory.

‘‘What accreditations are needed? What are the skill requirements? Can we assist in finding the right learning pathways or even organise training locally?’’

The Community House will be working in partnership with Mooroopna, Murchison, Numurkah, North and South Shepparton community centres.
