Proud as punch: A-grade winner Sue Turnbull and B-grade winner Wilma Saunders were happy with each others win.

The stroke event was the first round of the club championships, with four grades being contested.

The visitors from Cowes Golf Club were welcomed as they joined in the local competition.

Sue Turnbull played her best to win A-grade with 68 nett, giving her a good start in the club championships. Runner-up was Deb Reilly with 70 nett on count back.

Wilma Saunders won B-grade with 70 nett, closely followed by Cowes visitor Kaye Huther with 72 nett.

Ball winners: Jan Coe 70, Lyn Fanning and Julie Gregg 71, Robyn Downs and Judy Baker 72 nett.

Julie Gregg was happy with her day of golf, having an excellent scratch score of 78 strokes as she sets her sights on yet another club championship trophy.

Nearest-the-pins: Third Gallery Café, Francie Mark; sixth Tatura Hot Bread and ninth Café Alofa, Colleen Johns; 14th One4One Café, Judy Baker.

The encouragement award was given to Phyl Fiddes, as she steadily reduces her handicap.

Nine-hole competition: Lois Rogers won with 35 nett, while Linda O’Shannessy was runner-up with 36 nett on count back from Beryl Home, who was welcomed back to golf after a long break.

Pennant results: Hill Top has made a great start to the winter season of pennant, with two wins and a square.

Division one defeated Tocumwal at Tocumwal 3/2, division three defeated Cobram-Barooga at Rich River 41/2-1/2, while division four drew at Tocumwal.

Division three has the bye this week, while division one plays at Hill Top and division four travels to Kyabram Valley View.

Monthly medal: The monthly medal will be played on Saturday this week, with women members encouraged to play, because this is one of three medal days played in the year on a Saturday as a trial to attract working women.

Wednesday’s event: stroke: second round of the club championships, Hill Top Brooch.

Nine-hole competition: Front nine.
