The Toolamba Wrens CWA was formed on Tuesday, April 17, 50 years since the previous branch ceased operations.
At the inaugural meeting at Toolamba Community Hall, 20 members signed up and office bearers were selected.
GV West CWA group president Lyn Trezise and secretary Janice Barrette attended the meeting and appointed the office bearers including Mel Hall as president, Andrea Pogue as vice-president, Keira Birchmore as secretary and Bec Brisbane as treasurer.
Toolamba Wrens CWA publicity officer Pat Patt said the meeting was a great start for the group.
‘‘The township of Toolamba has grown and there a quite a lot of young, proactive women in the community,’’ Mrs Patt said.
‘‘The night was largely about finding our way and working out office roles.’’
Mrs Patt is excited see what the future holds for the group.
‘‘It’s a mix of ages in the group, which I think may mean a different focus compared to other CWA groups.’’
The Toolamba Wrens first public work will be laying a wreath at the Toolamba Anzac Day event.
They are also looking into supporting other local projects, such as a cook book, Toolamba Food Swap and Boomerang Bags.
Toolamba Wrens president Mel Hall is looking forward to learning forgotten skills like sewing, knitting, crochet and incorporating more modern skills like photography and yoga.
‘‘It will be the coming of new and old together,’’ Ms Hall said.
Meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm.
