The winter golf season started last Wednesday with a stroke-monthly medal event sponsored by Drummond Golf in warm conditions.

A-grade was won by Bev Roberts with 73 nett on a countback, winning a Drummond Voucher. When added to the other prizes she has won recently, it will make for a big shopping spree at Drummonds.

Runner-up was Janette Hayward with 73 nett.

B-grade was won by Lyn Flett, who continued her purple patch scoring 69 nett. Flett also won the monthly medal.

Runner-up was Francis Mark with 70 nett. Scratch winner with 92 strokes was Terri Wangeman.

Ball winners: Phyl Fiddes 71, Sue Turnbull 72, Lois Rogers 74, Barb Nation 75.

Nearest-the-pins: Gallery Café third, Liz Mulcahy; Tatura Hot Bread sixth, Sue Turnbull; Café Alofa ninth, Judy Baker; One4One Café 14th, Bev Roberts. Roberts was only a hand span from the hole, giving her the eagle’s nest, which she had to share with Liz Mulcahy, who was also very close to the hole.

Nine-hole competition: Helen Williams won with 38 nett.

Wednesday’s event: Three-person Irish teams event, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute Day. Nine holes, back nine.
