Construction has started on the National Broadband Network in Tatura, with about 1600 homes and business expected to be connected.
Crews have begun checking pits and pipes, laying the fibre backbone and installing node cabinets throughout the area.
Head of NBN local Victoria and Tasmania Ebony Aitken is enthusiastic about the connection.
‘‘This is terrific news for Tatura as it means the entire community will be fully connected to the NBN broadband access network once construction is complete,’’ she said.
While updates are taking place, the NBN has advised that civil works may cause some disruptions to residents.
The community is expected to be able to make the switch from May.
