Staff at a Tatura business have been left devastated after an antique cash register was stolen from the store on Australia Day.
Tatura Farm Supplies’ Caroline Minns said she arrived at the Ross St business early that morning to discover it had been broken into and the store’s 1939 National cash register was gone.
Ms Minns said it was a sad way to end International Dairy Week.
‘‘I got very attached to it,’’ she said of the cash register. ‘‘I’m heartbroken. I think it’s gone forever.
‘‘They’d made a mess and stole the cash register. We don’t leave any cash on the premises but they just targeted that, unfortunately.
‘‘The register worked and you could turn the handle and it had a beautiful timber cash draw. We used it in the shop every day.’’
Ms Minns and her husband Martin Ward took to Facebook last Tuesday in the hope of having the cash register returned. The post has been shared more than 900 times.
‘‘It’s been so lovely. You just wish you could thank them all,’’ Ms Minns said.
