Merrigum bowls

November 17, 2017

Merrigum’s division six side travelled out to Shepparton Golf and won both rinks to gain the maximum points.

This group has been showing some good signs recently and it is very pleasing to see it have some success.

John Bailey, Barry McMeeken, Noreen Earl and Carmen Quattrocchi played A. Matthews and won by 12 shots.

Neil Gardiner, Clive Baxter, Alan Dennis and Allan Roberts played F. O’Meara and won by eight shots.

Unfortunately, the score cards have been misplaced, so there are no further details on the individual games.

It was good to see Al Dennis back playing bowls.

Well done to the sixes.

It was not such a happy story for division four, which drove out to Dookie but did not trouble the scorers.

Joe Chant played David Smith and led for 10 ends but then lost the next 10 ends which finished any chance his side had of winning.

Wayne Shepherd played Speed Ryan. They were all square on end 22 but unfortunately Shepherd lost the last three ends.

John Firmer dropped a seven against Swanny and only lost by eight shots.

Firmer’s rink played well after smoko but the damage had been done.

Jim Arthur met Des Thorpe. After 18 ends Arthur was three shots up, but sadly dropped the last seven ends to go down by nine shots.

There really was not much difference between the two sides but Dookie showed the way when it really mattered.

All teams have a bye next week for the Victorian Open.

The club needs helpers for the four days, November 18 to 21. Please see if you can help in any way.

Do not forget donations for the Carols Christmas hamper.

It was good to see greenskeeper Rob Dennis home from hospital.

The club hopes you recover quickly from your surgery.
