October 27, 2017

The annual Ladies Invitation 4s were played at Tatura on Monday, October 16 with 22 teams from across the region taking part in an enjoyable day of bowling.

Thanks to all the wonderful sponsors including Valley Funerals who sponsored the winner and runner-up prizes and Unilever who donated a magnificent basket of their products for the raffle.

Thanks also to Tatura Milk for the donated products which enabled the ladies to prepare a wonderful lunch for the bowlers.

Mid-week pennant saw Tatura Bowls Club’s team glad to see the finish of play against an experienced and good Kyabram Team.

Weekend Pennant saw the Division 2 Team have a great tussle at Kyabram but unfortunately they went down by 11 shots overall.

It was a great effort with a number of players unavailable and late withdrawals.

N. Tziros and his team had a six-shot win over J. Hausier; Jason Carter had an eight-shot win over R. Canute.

John Attwood and Rob Crotty had late changes to their teams and performed well but went down 11 shots to G. Preddy and 14 shots to P. O’Brien respectively.

The changes to the top team meant Division 5 had plenty of adjustments.

My team was unchanged but I had a horror day and received a bowling lesson from Mark Weideman’s team, going down by 20 shots.

Freda Clement was an addition and her team performed really well.

They were up 20/14 after 19 ends but dropped four of the last six ends, winning 23/21 against B. Morris.

With the late withdrawals, Bo Miller was promoted to skipper of a completely remade side.

After 10 ends, he was down 0/14; his team put down some good bowls but he was unable to hold them.

After a break for morning tea, his team put up a great performance and broke even, finally going down by 14 shots resulting in an overall loss by 34 shots.

A big thanks to those emergencies who are the backbone of a club.

Club draws are on the noticeboard; lists are on the noticeboard for helpers on the Murray/Goulburn Over 60s game, to be held on Monday, October 30.

Helpers are needed for setting up and cleaning up.

Also there is a list for mowing in front of the club.

Hill Top

The Hill Top mid-week bowls players are into round four already.

This week Division 1 takes on Shepparton Golf at home which could be a close contest.

Division 2 travels to Kyabram to take on the ladder leaders, and Division 4 will play on the carpet at Shepparton East.

Division 4 had a good win over Shepparton Park 82-14 to 63-2

The Over 60s was held at Hill Top on Thursday with 12 teams competing.

The day was overcast and unfortunately the rain came during the lunch break and the last game was cancelled.

Winners on the day were Kyabram and runners-up were Mooroopna Golf’s Karen Dean.

The raffle winners were Nancye Brisbane and Margaret Tweddle.

This Friday the Goulburn Valley Association travels to Yarrawonga for the annual GVBD and Murray Challenge Day.

Good luck to all who have been selected and have a great day.

On Saturday night the new season’s bowls dinner was held at the Links Bistro with a great attendance by both Mid-Week and Saturday Pennant teams.

Round One of the women’s pairs is to be completed by Friday, October 27.

Bowlers are reminded that the November meeting has been bought forward to Monday, October 30 at 10am due to the Melbourne Cup week.
