Sunday was the annual shield pre-pennant grudge match between Tatura Bowls Club and Mooroopna Golf, played at Mooroopna Golf, on a warm but windy day.
There were seven rinks of four played over 21 ends with the following results:
P. Lesueur (s), F. Clement, P. Cohen and J. Hussey were down 4-12 after nine ends but fought back to go down by one shot 18-19.
J. Carter (s), N. Tziros, D. Miller and J. Evans were up 12-7 after 12 ends but must have thought the ‘bell’ had rung, losing seven consecutive ends to go down 14-19.
T. Gale (s), P. Wallis, G. Tully and F. Britten were up 8-5 after eight ends but then had a real fight on their hands and were down 9-21 on 15 ends but made a fantastic comeback, finally going down 21-25.
R. Crotty (s), B. Cooper, B. Bordett and G. Andrus shot out of the blocks and were up 10-0 after five ends but the wheels fell off and they lost 11 of the next 16 ends to go down 16-24.
J. Andrus (s), J. Robson, S. Baldwin and D. Westin teamed well together with Joyce captaining her first game for her new club and Julian Robson returning to bowls and playing as a third .
They had a steadying influence with Dave Westin and Bandit Baldwin leading them off.
They were very consistent all the way through and had a good win 25-19.
Wally Sinclair (s), P. Boyd, Dot Best and L. Noonan teamed well together and were up 20-7 after 13 ends and continued on for a 29-12 win.
Wally D. Carpenter (s), A. Barry, P. Hussey and S. Tziros really teamed well and went on to a 32-12 win which was a nice 15th birthday present for Seth.
He is enjoying his bowls and is leading well.
It was a nice welcome to Darryn Carpenter for his first game for Tatura.
Tatura retained the shield, winning 155-130.
Thank you to Mooroopna Golf for the game and the wonderful hospitality afterwards.
