Tatura Hot Bread has had its most successful year to date when it comes to bakery awards, recently taking out 13 prizes at the Great Aussie Pie Competition in Darling Harbour, Sydney.
‘‘It’s been our best year yet prize-wise,’’ owner Glenda Alexander said.
Ms Alexander said they were pleased to have taken out six gold prizes at the competition where they travelled from Tatura to Sydney with Eskys full of carefully packaged stock.
‘‘We decided to drive over,’’ she said.
‘‘We know we can take care of the pies that way; they have to be really carefully packaged and Geoff (Alexander) has a special way of doing it.’’
She said their famous chicken, cranberry and brie flavoured pie, which this year took out Australia’s best pie, was among the six gold.
‘‘We also had our curry chicken pie, chunky steak and caramelised onion pie, our breakfast pie, which also won third overall in the breakfast pie category, our plain pie and our chunky steak pie take out gold,’’ she said.
The bakery was also awarded silver for its honey mustard chicken pie, Tuscan chicken pie, sausage roll, cauliflower and cheese roll, curried sausage roll, chunky pepper pie and vegetable pie.
‘‘This is the first year we haven’t gotten bronze for any products,’’ she said and added every product they entered received either gold or silver.
The accolades come after a successful year of prizes after the bakery was also awarded second place for its vanilla slice at the Mildura City’s Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph recently.
‘‘We also picked up about 13 prizes at the Victorian Baking Show this year,’’ Ms Alexander said.
Ms Alexander said they would like to thank their staff for all the great work they did and the judges and the organising committee for a great event.
