Doris Chambers Foursomes winners Sue Turnbull and Sheryl Curran.

Round one of the Doris Chambers foursomes and the foursomes championships were played in the last of the sunny conditions as rain set in the following day.

Sheryl Curran and Sue Turnbull played well together to win the Doris Chambers event with 69.5 nett, which will see them compete at Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club on October 12.

The runners-up were Robyn Downs and Heather Long who scored 71 nett on countback.

The second round of the championship will be played next Wednesday.

Ball winners were Pat Serra and Lyn Fanning with 71 nett.

Nearest-the-pins went to Liz Mulcahy on the third (Gallery Café), Lyn Fanning on the ninth (Café Alofa) and Sheryl Curran on the 14th (ONE4ONE Café).

Glad Robbins event

The semi-finals of the Glad Robbins event has been finalised with Deb Reilly to play off against Di Day. Congratulations to these women who will play the final on Friday, August 25.

Golf coaching

Juniors: golf lessons for juniors are being offered next Sunday, August 13 at $5 a child.

Children to bring their own clubs if they have them, but it’s not essential.

Lessons begin at 10.30am sharp until noon.

Women’s lessons: August 13 at 1pm — one-hour group lessons.

Beginners are encouraged to come along, and also members and non-members who wish to gain some valuable tips. The cost is $5 a person, with proceeds going to women’s golf development.

Lessons are conducted by experienced Hill Top women golfers.

Golf is a great way to exercise and socialise.
