VicRoads calls for safety suggestions

August 03, 2017

Greater Shepparton City Council chief executive Peter Harriott .

Attention Tatura, Murchison and nearby communities.

VicRoads wants to hear your ideas for improving safety on a troublesome stretch of Murchison-Tatura Rd.

Suggestions on how safety can be improved on Murchison-Tatura Rd, between O’Reilly Rd and Murton Rd in particular, are being sought.

Regional director Nicki Kyriakou said concerns about safety and reducing risk on the road had been raised by the community.

‘‘Members of the community contacted us about potential safety risks along this stretch of road,’’ Ms Kyriakou said.

‘‘We are encouraging local residents and others who use this road to provide us with feedback and suggestions on how we can improve this local road to suit the local conditions and uses of the road.’’

In February, VicRoads released a tender for surface rehabilitation for up to 7km of the deteriorated Tatura-Murchison Rd.

The road has been singled out in conversations between council and VicRoads, alongside recent petitions and pressure from the communities.

‘‘(They’re) a couple of our main arterial roads that have suffered in recent times and need regular maintenance,’’ Greater Shepparton City Council chief executive Peter Harriott had said following conversations with the road authority.

Ms Kyriakou said VicRoads was keen to hear from all road users about their experiences on this stretch of road.
