Comedian Damian Callinan’s latest show, Town Folk, takes a look at what makes small communities tick.
The concept of the show is based on a previous performance called Road Trip that saw him spend time in 26 towns a few years ago and then perform shows based on the stories he gathered.
‘‘The shows themselves were joyous, but it was just such hard work,’’ Mr Callinan said.
‘‘The great thing that came out of it was that we met all these great people, so I thought why don’t we build a show that’s a little bit more community based?’’
Town Folk will see Mr Callinan immerse himself in the Dookie and Murchison communities to discover the different characters and issues within them.
This performance is part of Riverlinks’ annual In Your Town project that delivers entertainment beyond Shepparton’s main performing arts centres and directly into local halls and smaller communities.
Mr Callinan said he had already spent some time in Dookie and Murchison gathering intel and meeting people.
His shows will feature video content of locals participating in different activities.
In Murchison two people will be swapping jobs for a day while in Dookie concern about the proposal for a resource-recovery precinct will be discussed.
Mr Callinan said he was looking forward to getting back out in the Dookie and Murchison communities starting on Monday in preparation for his performances.
‘‘It’s one of the more challenging jobs I’ve done,’’ he said.
‘‘People are great though.
‘‘Getting them on stage and in front of the camera is the hard bit.’’
■Town Folk will be held at the Dookie Memorial Hall on Wednesday, July 26, at 7.30pm and at the Murchison Community Centre on Saturday, July 29, at 7.30pm.
Tickets for these shows are $25 adults, $22 concession, $15 for under 17 and $22 for Riverlinks members.
