Shepparton's Damien "Will" Willoughby will be on hand in Murchison next month to guide business people on how to better utilise social media.

Following the success of the Tatura Business Breakfast, a similar event will be held in Murchison next month.

A spokesperson from Greater Shepparton City Council said it had partnered with local communities to host business sessions that support local businesses and help them reach their utmost potential through the world of social media.

Greater Shepparton City Council sustainable development director Johann Rajaratnam said businesses were realising the huge benefits of social media marketing and its increasing importance in staying relevant and attracting new customers.

‘‘Long gone are the days when the secretary was the first point of contact between an organisation and the outside world,’’ Mr Rajaratnam said.

‘‘The role is being replaced by websites and social media profiles.

‘‘Proficient online marketers know that in order to make the most of the power of social media you need to incorporate a deliberate mixture of listening to your audience, sharing your relevant message and enabling others to share your relevant message.’’

The Murchison Community Plan committee will hosting the event, with guest speaker Damien ‘‘Will’’ Willoughby, where business people can hear first-hand from the local digital marketing expert and social media coach.

The Murchison Business Event will take place during the Small Business Festival.

Will is keen to hear from you in the lead-up to the event.

If you have a marketing question, digital, social or traditional email him directly at [email protected] and he will answer your question at the event.

The event will be held at the Caledonian Hotel, 47 Stevenson St, Murchison, on Wednesday, August 23, from 5.30 to 7pm.

The event is free and those who wish to attend must RSVP by Friday, August 18, to Jenny Lister at [email protected]
