The Lions Club of Tatura recently kick-started the fundraising efforts of Moyola Aged Care Inc. to purchase a mini bus with a $5000 donation.
Tatura Lions president Doug Tuhan presented funds to Moyola chief executive Polly Devine and committee of management vice-president Liz Kerrins on behalf of the club.
‘‘Tatura is a very close-knit small town and it’s very important to our Lions Club that the money we raise goes to local groups and projects,’’ Mr Tuhan said.
Mr Tuhan said it had been fantastic to present the cheque with resident Ted McCracken present, who had previously been a huge ambassador for fundraising for Tatura Lions Club.
‘‘Ted has been a charter member of the Tatura Lions Club for over 40 years, and worked tirelessly for Tatura,’’ he said.
Ms Devine thanked Mr Tuhan along with the Tatura Lions Club’s John Mapson for their donation.
‘‘Moyola enjoys a wonderful relationship with Lions and we thank them for their donation towards our minibus,’’ she said.
‘‘Purchasing the minibus will allow us to expand our activities for residents and lock in a full calendar of outings that our residents will love.’’
Ms Kerrins said Moyola’s Margaret Love wing allowed people facing issues associated with memory loss to stay locally and not face the emotional challenges of leaving what they know in their own community.
‘‘We are so lucky to have such a facility in a town of our size and Moyola has plans to expand this facility,’’ she said.
The Tatura Lions Club raised the funds through its raffles, which last year gathered $40000 in total, which was allocated to local causes.
