Groups urged to join drug team

June 28, 2017

Federal Member for Murray Damian Drum has encouraged district organisations to join forces to fight drug use and addiction in our communities.

Applications are open for district organisations to join the Federal Government’s Local Drug Action Team.

Community groups across Australia are joining forces to deliver targeted local action to help tackle drug use and addiction.

‘‘There are communities in Murray that are affected by drug and alcohol abuse,’’ Federal Member for Murray Damian Drum said.

‘‘Local groups know the best way to help prevent the harms of ice, other drugs and alcohol in our communities, and I encourage each of them to apply.’’

The program, an initiative under the Federal Government’s four-year $298million investment, is supported by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, which will deliver evidence-based community-level action.

Up to $40000 funding is available to support prevention activities and priorities that teams have identified in response to local issues.

Mr Drum said teams could include representatives from councils, schools, police, youth services, primary health services, community groups, non-government organisations and community members.

Applications are now open and will close on July14.
