Federal Member for Murray Damian Drum has welcomed a Senate inquiry into relocating Commonwealth agencies.

Federal Member for Murray Damian Drum has welcomed a Senate inquiry into relocating Commonwealth agencies and is urging residents to have their say on the benefits of decentralisation.

‘‘This is a crucial opportunity for the people of Murray to stand up and fight to bring well-paid, skilled jobs and people to our electorate,’’ Mr Drum said.

‘‘I encourage local governments, business groups and community associations to contact my office if they are interested in making a submission to this inquiry.

‘‘The electorate of Murray provides so much of the country’s fresh fruit and milk.

‘‘We deserve the benefits of public sector employment just as much as any capital city,’’ he said.

The call for decentralisation has been supported by the Committee for Greater Shepparton chief executive Sam Birrell.

‘‘The committee supports the Senate enquiry to examine jobs move to regions,’’ Mr Birrell said.

‘‘The nation would benefit from moving appropriate government departments in a sustainable way to regional cities.’’
