About eight tonnes of gabion rock has been stolen from Willow Rd in Murchison.

Murchison police Leading Senior Constable Ricky Keast said $200 worth of gabion rock and $200 worth of diesel were taken between Tuesday and Wednesday a fortnight ago.

Leading Sen Const Keast said offenders got past a locked gate and started a Caterpillar front-end loader with a key.

They then used the front-end loader to fill a small truck — which they had brought with them — with the rock.

They then syphoned about 150 litres of diesel from the front-end loader.

Leading Sen Const Keast said even though the front-end loader was not taken from the property, it was still considered theft to drive it.

He said police were looking for information about the crime and asked people to keep an eye-out for the sudden appearance of gabion rock in neighbours’ yards or in the community.

■Anyone with information about the incident can phone Murchison police on 58262222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
